What Is the Bassmaster Classic?

The Bassmaster Classic isn’t just another fishing tournament; it’s the Super Bowl of bass fishing. With its high stakes, top-tier anglers, and electric atmosphere, it attracts thousands of fishing enthusiasts, whether they’re seasoned pros or casual fans. And this time, it’s being held at the magnificent Lake Ray Roberts, a gem in Texas’ outdoor crown.

Event Details You Won’t Want to Miss

Mark your calendars! Here’s what you need to know about the Bassmaster Classic and why it’s making waves in 2025.

  • When: March 21–23, 2025

  • Where: Lake Ray Roberts (angler launch at the Isle du Bois Unit, Ray Roberts Lake State Park) and Dickies Arena in Fort Worth for weigh-ins.

  • Who’s Competing: 56 of the world’s top anglers will battle for a chance to claim the coveted title.

Picture the sun rising over Lake Ray Roberts as 56 boats launch into the water, the anticipation of record catches heavy in the air. Each day ends with weigh-ins at Dickies Arena, transforming this fishing event into a thrilling showcase of skill and strategy.

Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Impact on the Classic

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) isn’t just hosting this event; they play a vital role in ensuring it’s a success, both for the anglers and the environment.

At this year’s Classic, TPWD will feature some exciting activities at the Bassmaster Outdoors Expo at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Visitors can look forward to hands-on experiences with TPWD’s electrofishing boat, displays from the Toyota ShareLunker Program, and engaging discussions with local fish biologists.

Angler education, boater safety awareness, and tools for habitat conservation are just a few of the many ways TPWD’s outreach efforts inspire a love of fishing and protect Texas’ natural beauty for generations to come.

Oh, and don’t forget to grab your free copy of TPWD’s brand-new “Bass: A Texas Parks & Wildlife Fishing Journal.” It’s packed with tips, history, and all things bass-related to keep your techniques sharp and your enthusiasm even sharper!

Lake Ray Roberts at a Glance

Lake Ray Roberts, a pristine body of water stretching 29,000 acres, is the perfect venue for this year’s Classic. Its natural shoreline, rocky banks, and flooded vegetation create an ideal habitat for largemouth bass, while the standing timber and constructed brush piles offer abundant fishing spots for anglers to explore.

This lake has long been a part of Texas’ fishing legacy, producing six Legacy Class ShareLunker entries (each fish over 13 lbs!) and multiple record-breaking catches. It’s living proof of TPWD’s commitment to maintaining a high-quality fishery, thanks to its well-managed stocking efforts.

ShareLunker Program: A Legacy of Excellence

For those unfamiliar with the Toyota ShareLunker Program, it’s one of Texas’ most celebrated conservation efforts. Anglers who catch a largemouth bass weighing over 13 pounds can contribute it to the program to help produce Lone Star Bass, a selectively bred fish designed for world-class fisheries like Lake Ray Roberts.

This year, TPWD will highlight ShareLunker achievements at the expo, showcasing its positive impact on bass fishing in Texas. With over 4.6 million Florida bass stocked into Lake Ray Roberts, this program is proof that conservation and recreation can go hand in hand.
